Homeowner Tried To Fight Off Intruder With A Stick Before Shooting Him

A homeowner in Washington state was forced to defend himself against an intruder who broke into his house in the middle of the afternoon last Friday (May 17). The homeowner, who has not been identified, confronted the burglar in his kitchen and attempted to fight him off with a piece of wood.

When that failed, he grabbed his gun and shot the man once in the chest. The suspect was rushed to the hospital and is expected to survive. The Thurston County Sheriff's Office says that they plan to charge the intruder with first-degree residential burglary when he is released from the hospital.

Officials say that the homeowner will not be facing any charges for shooting the man because he was within his right to defend himself and his wife.

"The homeowner knew that he did the right thing, and the only thing he could do to protect himself and his wife," Lieutenant Tim Rudloff told Q13 News.
