A new poll shows that President Donald Trump's approval rating was unchanged after his heated exchange with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, despite receiving more criticism for his handling of the war between Russia and Ukraine.
The survey, which was conducted by Emerson College Polling and released on Monday (March 3), shows that Trump retained a 48% approval rating since the February national poll conducted on February 19, though his disapproval rating increased by one point to 43%. Trump is, however, seeing less support for his handling of the war between Russia and Ukraine with a majority 44% of voters saying they disapprove, 41% saying they approve and 15% saying they're neutral.
“Perception of Trump’s handling of the Russia-Ukraine war reveals a stark partisan divide: 73% of Republicans approve of the President’s handling of the war, while 76% of Democrats disapprove,” said Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling, said. “Independents are more divided, with 46% disapproving and 35% approving.”
Trump claimed that Zelensky was "gambling with World War III" during a back and forth exchange as the rare earth minerals deal the two world leaders were supposed to sign fell through when the Ukrainian president was asked to leave the White House. Trump later claimed Zelensky could come back "when he is ready for Peace" in a post shared on his Truth Social account.
“This is the worst statement that could have been made by Zelenskyy, and America will not put up with it for much longer!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social account Monday (March 3).
