FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State softball team (17-9) grabbed its eighth straight win, defeating CSU Bakersfield (11-18) 6-1 at Margie Wright Diamond on Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs outhit the Roadrunners 11-4. Natalie Elias went 3-for-4 at the plate, while Kennedy Bunker added two hits and drove in three RBIs. Three pitchers saw time in the circle: Hannah Duncan started the game, Hannah Ortega earned her second win of the season, and Key-Annah Campbell-Pu'a recorded her first save.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State got off to a strong start, scoring four runs on five hits in the first inning. The inning began with back-to-back singles from Natalie Elias and Emma Martinez. Kennedy Bunker then drove them both in with a double. Lauren Almeida followed with a walk, putting two runners on base. Alyssa Ramires followed with a single to bring in another run, and Olivia Hill capped off the inning with an RBI single to score the final run. 'Dogs had a 4-0 lead.
The Roadrunners scored their lone run of the contest in the top of the second. With two outs, Maalia Cherry hit a solo home run.
The Bulldogs responded in the bottom of the inning, starting with back-to-back singles once again. Kennedy Bunker brought in the run with the third hit of the inning.
Fresno State added the final run in the fourth. Elias hit her third single of the game to get the inning started, and Lauren Almeida doubled to center field to bring her home.
Key-Annah Campbell-Pu'a and the defense only allowed one hit down the stretch to secure the 6-1 victory.
