'Dogs best Aggies 5-1

DAVIS, Calif. — The Fresno State softball team (30-17) defeated UC Davis 5-1 on Tuesday afternoon after recording a season-best 16 hits in the contest.

Kealani Nitta and Alyssa Ramirez led the team at the plate, tying their career-highs, with three hits apiece.

The bullpen held the Aggies to two hits in the contest. Three pitchers saw time in the circle. Key-Annah Campbell-Pu'a recorded the win after throwing 4.0 innings with two strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Fresno State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Bulldogs opened the frame with back-to-back singles before Taryn Irigoyen delivered an RBI single through the right side. Lauren Almeida followed with a two-run single up the middle to cap the early scoring.

In the second inning, Fresno State tacked on another run. Natalie Elias and Kealani Nitta once again notched back-to-back singles, and a defensive miscue on a fielder's choice allowed a run to cross the plate.

After being held scoreless through the first five innings, the Aggies finally got on the board with a run in the bottom of the sixth.

Fresno State answered in the top of the seventh, stringing together four base hits to push across the final run of the game. The Bulldogs secured a 5-1 victory in Tuesday's matchup.
