SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Fresno State baseball team fell 11-6 in their third regular-season contest against Cal Poly on Tuesday in San Luis Obispo.
With the loss, Fresno State falls to 19-21 overall on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Owen Faust led off the game with a bloop single just inches into fair territory in shallow right field. Murf Gray reached first on a walk, and a double steal advanced both baserunners to scoring position. Griffen Sotomayor singled up the middle and plated both runners to give the Bulldogs an early lead.
Cal Poly responded quickly with three straight hits, two singles and a double, to begin its half of the inning and tie the game. The Mustangs extended the inning after a fielding error by Eddie Saldivar with two outs on the board, and scored another pair of runs on consecutive singles.
Sky Collins crushed the first pitch of the second inning over the left field wall, his fourth home run of the season and second against Cal Poly in 2025.
The Mustangs scored four runs in the next two innings with a pair of sacrifice flies and an RBI single.
Bobby Blandford began the sixth inning with a lead-off double down the right field line. With two outs, Jacob Pappas reached first on a walk, and both runners were scored by Owen Faust's first collegiate triple. Faust was sent home by Saldivar's second hit of the day.
Cal Poly extended its lead in the seventh inning as three runs scored on three hits and a wild pitch to make it an 11-6 game.
Fresno State could not overcome the deficit and fell 11-6 to the Mustangs.
NOTES
Owen Faust was 3-for-5 on the night and just a home run shy of the cycle.
Cal Poly is the second team to beat Fresno State three times in 2025, behind TCU.
Fresno State is 2-6 on Tuesdays in 2025.
