FRESNO, Calif. – Despite a late rally, the Fresno State baseball team concluded its series against San Jose State with a 9-7 loss at home on Senior Day.
The loss drops the Bulldogs to a 25-26 record. They are now in second place in the Mountain West standings, tied with New Mexico and behind Nevada.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State began the game scoreless in the first inning, as both teams sized each other up. The Bulldogs found themselves in an early deficit as the Spartans scored three runs in the second inning, followed by two more in the third, taking control with a 5-1 lead after Fresno State managed just a single run in the bottom of the second.
The Bulldogs fought back in the fourth inning, with Justin Stransky sparking the offense by driving in a run, supported by a two-run homer from Bobby Blandford that narrowed the gap to 5-3.
San Jose State added four more runs in the seventh and eighth to extend their lead to 9-3 with a pair of homers.
The eighth inning brought fireworks for Fresno State. Down 9-3 after a Spartan rally, Blandford delivered his second home run of the game that reignited hopes of a comeback. The Bulldogs clawed back to make it 9-7 heading into the final frame, but San Jose State's pitching held firm in the ninth, closing out the game and sealing Fresno State's defeat despite their valiant effort.

Fresno State celebrated Cooper Bergman, Bryce Armstrong, Caleb Anderson, Bobby Blandford, Max Shor, Justin Stransky and Eddie Saldivar in a pregame ceremony in honor of Senior Day.
Bobby Blandford had his second multiple-home run game of the season.
Justin Stransky delivered his 100th hit as a Bulldog.
