WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita Sports Commission announced today the semifinalists for the 2025 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award, including Fresno State catcher Justin Stransky.
This year, 92 catchers from 27 conferences were nominated during the nomination process from February 12 to May 9. Of those 92 catchers, a list of 13 semifinalists was chosen by our Buster Posey Award selection committee on May 14.
Stransky closed out the regular season with a .326 batting average, appearing in all 55 games for the Bulldogs this season. Of his 70 hits, he was credited with eight doubles, a pair of triples and 12 home runs. On the bases, the backstop had 10 successful stolen base attempts out of 13.
Stransky demonstrated exceptional defensive skills behind the plate, committing just two errors out of 487 total fielding opportunities, resulting in an impressive .996 fielding percentage. The Washington native allowed only two stolen bases while successfully catching 17 out of 19 attempted base stealers.
The three finalists who are chosen will be invited to Wichita to take part in the Buster Posey Award Ceremony that is part of the Greater Wichita Sports Banquet on Thursday, June 26.
