FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State swimmers Aliz Kalmar and Jenna Pulkinnen have traveled over 5,000 miles to compete in the 2025 Rhine-Ruhr FISU World University Games in Berlin, Germany. The swimming portion of the games will be held in Berlin at the Schwimm-und Sprunghalle IM Europasportpark (SSE) beginning on Thursday, July 17th through Wednesday, July 23rd.
Around 8,500 student-athletes from over 100 countries will compete for medals in 18 sports - making it one of the largest multi-sport events in the world in 2025.
Kalmar and Pulkkinen won't stray far from their best events in the breaststroke, while mixing in the butterfly and individual medley events. Kalmar will make an appearance in the 200 IM along with all three breaststroke disciplines. Pulkkinen will swim in the 50 butterfly in addition to the breaststroke events.
This will be the first large-scale competition for both Bulldogs since the NCAA Championship in March. Pulkkinen made her international debut in 2018 at the Nordic AG Championships in Riga, Latvia.
