BALTIMORE - Fresno State senior quarterback E.J. Warner has been added to the preseason watch list for the Johnny Unitas Award, presented annually to the top senior or upperclassman quarterback who is on track to graduate with their class. Warner is one of 58 premier college quarterbacks on the watch list announced by the organization on Tuesday.
The award recognizes student-athletes' on-field talent, character and leadership.
Warner was named Fresno State's starting quarterback on August 11, headed into game preparation for the Bulldogs' Week 0 game at Kansas on August 23. He is one of four quarterbacks from the Mountain West on the preseason watch list.
The senior quarterback enters his fourth season, at his third school. Beginning his career at Temple, he transferred to Rice in 2024 and to Fresno State in 2025. Warner is one of the most experienced players on the Bulldogs' offense this season, coming in with 32 career games played under his belt. He has totaled 8,814 career passing yards and is one of the nation's active leaders in the statistical category.
Warner is one of 13 FBS quarterbacks to have at least three consecutive seasons with at least one start entering 2025. He is also one of four quarterbacks poised to start for 3-plus different schools in their career.
Warner will lead the Bulldogs into the season opening game at Kansas this Saturday. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. PT on FOX.
